50 Meaningful Words

I’ve always had this dream of being a writer. I never really defined it beyond that. Magazine writer? Journalist? Novelist? Short story teller?

Yes.

So, two years ago, I paid the little money it took to sign up for a WordPress personal account and, on a whim, decided to to even pay for my own domain. For some reason, Middle Aged Hipster popped in my had and, based on jokes from friends (due to my love of indie music, vinyl and all things local and organic), it seemed appropriate. So, http://www.middleagedhipster.com was born.

I had dreams that I would write once per week. I didn’t care who read it. I just wanted to write regularly. I immediately realized that my ADD would make weekly difficult. So, monthly it became.

And then it wasn’t.

You see, with all the exhilaration of writing something and hitting that “Publish” button and promising myself that “Damn, I’m back on schedule. Hell, I can make this weekly.” Soon, though, that feeling faded.

Why?

There’s the old adage that great is the enemy of good. Not that I’m not saying anything I’ve ever written here (or anywhere, for that matter) has been great, but if you get obsessed with waiting until you feel “inspired” or until you can hit 250 words, then you’ll never be satisfied when you’ve achieved 50 words. Even if they might be 50 meaningful words.

All this is to say, from here on out, I’m writing regularly. I don’t care if sounds like Moby Dick or like Donald Trump adlibbing. Or if it’s 250 words or if it’s 50 words. I just hope a few of them are meaningful.

  1. Even if they’re not meaningful, you shouldn’t stop yourself from writing. As long as you get into the act, good things can happen. If you don’t, they won’t. At least that’s what I’ve found. Good luck with your endeavours, Larry!
