Easter: The Celebration of Ctrl/Alt/Del

ctrlaltdeleteControl / Alt / Delete – the modern-day version of rebirth.  Those are the three keys that, when pressed at the same time, reboot your computer.  Things not working like they should on your computer?  Control / Alt / Delete and start anew.

And the great thing is, you can do this all you want and each time, things start refreshed.  A quick disclaimer, I’m not an IT guy, so there’s a chance I may be giving you horrible computer advice.

What I do know, though, is that this works all you want in life, metaphorically speaking.  How many of you have resolved to make a life change and nailed it the very first time you tried?  If this is any of you, you’re either lying or are an overachiever.

In the last year, I’ve resolved to do the following:

  • Meditate daily
  • Eat more fish and start practicing the Mediterranean diet
  • Learn how to spell Mediterranean (Thank you spell check)
  • Do 60 pushups daily
  • Exercise regularly
  • Lose weight

So far, I’ve failed at ALL OF THEM.  Fairly regularly, actually.

At one time in my life, this would have been a cause of frustration for myself.  One more reason to just accept that being fat and out of shape was the normal way to live for a middle-aged American guy.

But, recently, it dawned on me that we don’t have just one day to renew or improve ourselves.  The first day of spring happens once a year, but these decisions we make for ourselves can happen every single day.

Eat eight glazed donuts in one morning of your diet?  Pretend it didn’t happen and move on with the rest of your life. Recently found your treadmill under a pile of clothes after you vowed to do laundry more often?  Dust it off and let this be the first day of your new habit.

Your rebirth can happen on the day of your choosing.  It’s not preset on a calendar.  It’s ready when you are.
