One of the best feelings in the world is finally doing something. That is to say, taking a long-time mantra (“One day, I’m going to…”) and finally acting on it. Probably one of the hardest things to do. One thing that’s harder, though, is actually doing that thing again and again.
Day 1: Yay! I went to the gym finally! Let’s do this! It’s the new me! A regular gym-goer.
Day 2: I think I read somewhere that you shouldn’t work out two days in a row. Something about giving your body a rest. Or electrolytes.
Day 3: Oh, all-day Golden Girls marathon.
Week 2: If you work out once a week, that’s still considered a regular gym-goer, right?
Month 2: If you work out once a month, that’s still considered a regular gym-goer, right?
For years, I’ve had this dream of being a writer. I’m not even sure what kind. I started thinking I wanted to be a novelist, but the thought of coming up with 200 pages on the same topic is daunting to say the least. Magazine writer? That would be 10,000 words on stuff I’d actually have to research.
But, what about a blogger? It’s really just like long-form Facebook. (Interesting Fact: First recognized blog was created in 1994 by a Swarthmore College student. You’re welcome.)
But that started other questions. What would I write about? Could I do it every week? What’s a Swarthmore?
So, for the first question, I decided to invest in a goal and purchased a couple “writing ideas” books. You can find these same “ideas” online, but what’s the fun in investing in yourself if it’s free?
For question #2, I have no idea, but I full intend to try to do it at least once a week.
Question #3? Swarthmore comes from Emmitt “Paper Cut” Swarthmore, the inventor of paper football.
So, I’m finally on this little journey. No idea where it will take me, but I just hope I can keep regular.
What is your journey? Have you started it yet?
Woop woop!!
